What is NIF and Why do I need it?

The acronym NIF stands for Número de Identificação Fiscal, which is also referred to as "Número de contribuinte" and serves as the Portuguese taxpayer identification number. This identification is mandatory for any transaction or process in Portugal, whether it involves obtaining a visa, signing a rental agreement, or entering into a mobile phone contract.

How long will it take to get NIF?

It takes between 3-10 business days to receive a NIF number from tax authority in Portugal.

What is included in the cost?

NIF and tax representative for 1 year (all non-EU residents must have a Fiscal Representative in place before requesting NIF). After 1 year the cost will be 159€.

Who will be my fiscal representative?

We will connect you to Portuguese lawyer who will be your fiscal (tax) representative and request NIF on your behalf.

Is it possible to get NIF for a child?

It is possible, please fill the form with child’s details, and if your child is under 18 then you will need to provide signed authority from both parents.
